Project Description
In the summer of 2020, the railway renovation of the Saint-Martin and Pierreuse tunnels in Liège was planned: a site with a total turnover of 2 million euros.
For 6 weeks, a team of around 50 people from our Track business unit worked there 24/7 to break down and completely renew the old railway infrastructure. The uniqueness of this shipyard was that both tracks in the tunnels are directly attached to a concrete slab and not to a ballast bed like most tracks.
This process is still quite unique in Belgium, but since our Track department had already gained experience with this in the Liefkenshoek rail tunnel in Antwerp, it was logical that Mobix was the best party to bring this yard to a successful conclusion.
However, there were still a few novelties here as well: as an absolute first in Belgium, epoxy resin was used to cast the rails. Our teams took up this challenge with great enthusiasm and all the tracks were neatly placed at the right height and adjusted within a very tight tolerance of about 3 mm!
